Did you know? Before handles, there was an option called a channel URL. To enable a channel URL, we needed to reach at least 100 subscribers. But now, YouTube has launched @Handles, a new and upgraded version of the channel URL.

What are the requirements to enable Handle on YouTube?

• Channel Name: As of now, having a YouTube channel with your own unique name seems to be the main requirement for enabling handles.

How to Setup YouTube Handle?

First, you need to have a channel on YouTube, second you need a YouTube Mobile app or if are using a desktop then the process will remain the same. Now let’s jump into the steps to set your handle.

• Open YouTube App: to set up or change the handle on YouTube, you must open YouTube.
• Click the profile icon from down right corner: once you successfully sign in with your account you will see a lot of options down below, simply click on your profile icon. Tap on the view channel option.
• Tap Edit Channel: you will find a pencil option there, simply click on the pencil icon.

Now, you will find a handle option from where you can set up your own unique handle name.

• Setup your handle: to change or set up your handle tap the pencil icon and enter your new handle. If your handle is not available a similar handle will be suggested.
• Save it: to confirm your new handle simply click on the Save button and be done.

Note: You can change your handle twice within a 14-day period. If you do so, YouTube will hold your previous handle for 14 days in case you’d like to switch back. During this 14-day period, your former handle URL and your updated URL will both work. Afterward, the handle will become available for other users to select as their handle.

If your preferred handle is not available, it’s usually because another channel already selected that handle or your handle name didn’t meet YouTube handle naming guidelines.

While choosing Your handle on YouTube you must follow these handle mining guidelines:

• Text between 3-30 characters
• Is made up of alphanumeric characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9)
• Your handle can also include: underscores (_), hyphens (-), periods (.)
• Is not URL-like or phone number-like
• Is not already being used
